That Damn Rumor Mill: Castlevania Mirror of Fate Maybe on 3DS, Maybe at E3
Anytime that rumor mill is involved, there’s a chance that it is simply that: a rumor. However, a lot of us are beginning to believe that this has a bit of truth behind it. Earlier today, Dutch site N1ntendo (translated via NeoGAF) said that Konami had revealed in an E3 appointment schedule that a new Castlevania game will be making an appearance at the giant event.
While we’re all holding our breaths for that official announcement of a Lords of Shadow sequel, the new title seems to be a 3DS exclusive title. No doubt this has many of our hearts aflutter.
Originally reported as being “Mirror of Faith,” a little digging by N1ntendo found domain registrations that listed the game’s proper name as “Mirror of Fate.” That’s not all, as N1ntendo also reports that David Cox, the producer of Lords of Shadow, and Enric Alvarez, the writer and director of Lords of Shadow, are on board with the project. Again, Konami has not officially commented on the situation except to say that “we don’t comment on rumor or speculation,” but they’ve kindly asked N1ntendo to remove their report.
Should this game prove to be true, it is a welcome return to a handheld system for the long-standing series. The last handheld entry, Order of Ecclesia on the DS system, was a critical and commercial success. Konami’s got the right cards to play this time around, and if Mirror of Fate is a step up from Ecclesia, then this will definitely be a seller for the Castlevania series. Hell, it would probably move diehard fans to go get a 3DS system even. A win-win situation in this case, if this particular rumor proves to be true.
