Trailer Unveils Magic: The Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013
In preparation for the Magic: The Gathering 2013 Core Set, Wizards of the Coast will be releasing a brand new Duels of the Planeswalkers game on iPad, Steam, XBLA, and PSN. These have previously been a wild disappointment with the top frustration being auto-tapped lands. Well have I got some chuffing brilliant news for you? Yes. I wouldn’t have asked if I didn’t. “Optional Manual Mana Tapping”. Never has a sweeter phrase been uttered in a press release. It’s not just that, there’s a whole bunch of new stuff. Including the crucial multiplayer mode: it’s ambiguously named “Planechase”. There’s also a bunch of new decks, puzzles, and of course you get to see what the 2013 core set will introduce before you spend all your money on fat packs and boosters.
DOTP normally manages to give us a hint on the direction of the upcoming sets too. DOTP 2012 had Liliana Vess plastered all over it and sure enough we got the Innistrad set soon after. This time the main draw for DOTP 2013 players is the final challenge in single player mode: Nicol Bolas. Could the legendary dragon planeswalker be the focus of upcoming sets in late 2012/early 2013? Wizards of the Coast are, naturally, being very quiet about this. Besides, I’m happy as long as Sorin Markov is involved somewhere. That chap is the boss.
Unfortunately no word on whether 2013 will include a free rare card as previous games have, but you do get a funky video below.
