E3 2012: Xbox SmartGlass coming to Windows 8 and Mobile Devices
Microsoft appear to be going head to head with Nintendo’s new Wii U console by announcing their new innovation, Xbox SmartGlass. Shown during their press conference yesterday this new service is said to work with pretty much every mobile platform and Windows 8 PC’s allowing you to interact and play games differently.
This new platform was shown off allowing for entertainment on the go for services like movies where you could watch them on your tablet on the move and then pick up where you left off when you return to your console. While watching movies or listening to music on the Xbox you’ll get information on your device about it, but entertainment wasn’t the only function shown for the SmartGlass – you’ll also have integration with your games. This was shown off with a tech demo running with Halo 4 allowing for information on items and the environments in the game to be displayed on your device. Integration with Madden was also shown allowing for plays to be planned on the device then set to go on the console. You’ll also be able to control the dashboard and in game menus using the SmartGlass putting all the features of the Xbox wherever you are.
It look impressive so far and should be available for the 360 before the year is out. Xbox SmartGlass will be available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Windows 8 PC’s.
