Payday’s Upcoming “No Mercy” Map Nod Isn’t a Prequel to L4D

Payday’s Upcoming “No Mercy” Map Nod Isn’t a Prequel to L4D

People get excited when trailers appear. Then people get overly excited and a few things might get lost in translation. Such was the case with the appearance of Left 4 Dead‘s “No Mercy” level in an upcoming PAYDAY: The Heist level.

Initial reports that found the trailer said that the level would be a “prequel” to Valve’s popular co-op zombie fest, but since then both Chet Faliszek and the Left 4 Dead dev team Twitter feed have shot down the rumor wholesale.

Overkill Studios had posted a video (which has been removed) and some screenshots depicting a heist taking place in the infamous hospital.

Faliszek set the record straight in an email sent to GT.TV, explaining that this mission was “100% Overkill made.”

“It is not telling the origins of the Infection and is not canon,” wrote Faliszek. “There is a little cameo from one of the L4D characters (the comic should give you a hint) and a fun little Easter egg with a payoff later in Left 4 Dead. Just us having some fun with a studio we are friends with and who have also made a great co-op game.”

Earlier today, the L4D dev team once again set the record straight with their Twitter feed, explaining that the campaign “out soon is not the prequel to L4D & it does not tell the origins of the infection. It is a fun Payday:Heist campaign made by the guys from Overkill set in Mercy Hospital with some fun L4D Easter eggs. It’s not canon.”

Last month, Valve and Overkill Studios announced that they would be working on a crossover title. While no details have been forthcoming yet on what exactly this title will encompass, we’re sure that it will be exciting and full of utter win.
