Crytek’s Kinect Title “Ryse” Still in the Works
Since the announcement of the game at last year’s E3 extravaganza, nary has been heard of Crytek’s mysterious Kinect-only title Ryse. While most Kinect titles are family-friendly and involve some form of making an absolute fool of yourself, the award-winning studio behind the Crysis series decided to challenge the norm.
Set in ancient Rome, the player assumes the role of a soldier fighting against the Roman legions. With the Kinect, players will hack, kick, and headbutt their way through waves of enemies. It all looks and sounds intriguing, but we might have to wait a while longer before we can experience this game in reality.
According to a Microsoft exec, Ryse won’t be seeing retail shelves until at least Summer of 2013. In an interview with The Verge, Phil Spencer said that the game hasn’t been canceled.
“We’re still building Ryse,” said Spencer. “We’re focused on games coming in the next twelve months, something I say every year, and it’s not something we’ll be shipping in the next twelve months.”
With internet leaks and rumors abound of an Xbox 720 next year, some have already begun to speculate that Ryse will be arriving for the next-gen. Spencer didn’t offer any comment on the situation, except to say that the game is currently playable on an Xbox 360.
