Japan Slaps Sleeping Dogs with Censorship

Developed by United Front, the Square Enix published Sleeping Dogs will be censored in the Land of the Rising Sun. We all know that the game isn’t exactly filled with sunshine and cotton candy, but Japan found the ultra-violence a little too much to take.

Called Sleeping Dogs Hong Kong Secret Police, some of the changes include a censored sex scene and the removal of a character whose sole job is to signal the start of a street race. Guess Japan doesn’t want you to engage in vehicular homicide. The most noticable addition is a new penalty imposed on the player for attacking civilians during certain missinos. The in-game punishment hasn’t been named yet.

Sleeping Dogs is set to release in North America on August 14th, Europe on August 17th, and Japan on September 27th.
