Last Guardian Trademark Listed as “Abandoned”

Last Guardian Trademark Listed as “Abandoned”

This is according to trademark website, Trademarkia. The site reports that as of August 6th, the trademark was changed and a statement of use has not been filed by Sony.

After hitting a few road bumps during its development cycle, the highly-anticipated title from Team Ico has not seen the light of day, and official statements from Sony regarding The Last Guardian have been few and far between. It has missed several large trade shows, and the most recent E3 showcase again saw a no-show on Team Ico’s part. In regards to the latest trademark abandonment, it’s a copy-paste of the “no comment on rumors and speculations” blurb from Sony.

Despite rumors circling an alleged cancellation of the project, former Team Ico lead Fumito Ueda has said that he’s still working closely with the team on The Last Guardian, even though he left the studio in the middle of 2011.

This is, by no means, any concrete evidence of a game cancellation. As of right now, it may be something silly like Sony forgetting to do some paperwork. Whatever the cause is, there is currently no official statement regarding the status of The Last Guardian.

  1. Well, at least I can say that I actually saw the footage when it was first announced at E3 2009. Never forget Chickendogbird thing. Maybe they can just add him to Super All Star Rumble Jam Sony Thing along with Ethan from Heavy Rain and The Microphone from Singstar.
