Hunting Prey: Where is that Damn Sequel Anyways?
You might remember the name Prey 2. You know, that one Bladerunner sci-fi bounty hunting tribute from Human Head Studios? It hasn’t been heard of lately, and we’re getting a bit concerned. Rumors have come around time and again that the project might have gotten canned, but to be honest, there hasn’t been much said about it.
With the restructuring of Bethesda’s new website, we’re given a prominent look at “upcoming titles” and some of their current noisemakers. Of course, Prey 2 was nowhere on that front page. With the announcement of a delay back in April, many of us thought it has been gone for good, but apparently that’s not the official word. Not yet, anyway.
“We announced the delay in April, and until we’re ready to talk about the game more, the focus on the site is on our upcoming titles,” said a Bethesda spokesperson to Eurogamer.
Considering that The Elder Scrolls: Online is the furthest out listed title on the site, guessing that Prey 2 might not show back up until 2014 is not much of a stretch. The Elder Scrolls: Online is supposed to go live in 2013.
Whether Prey 2 developer Human Head Studios is still working on the project will dictate when the game releases as well. Before the delay was announced, a dispute erupted between Human Head and Bethesda’s parent company Zenimax over a contract. Work had been halted since November 2011 at that point, and then the delay announcement came.
If the game has changed hands, it’s possible that we might have to wait even longer than 2014. Until then, we’re hoping for the very best.
