Wii U Adds Ron Gilbert’s “The Cave” to its Repertoire

Wii U Adds Ron Gilbert’s “The Cave” to its Repertoire

Double Fine aren’t all about that Kickstarter project, no siree, they’ve got Ron Gilbert on the case making a brand new adventure: The Cave. It had previously been slated for release in early 2013 on just the PC, PSN, and XBLA, but now it’s coming to the Nintendo eShop too for release on the Wii U. We’re assuming they’ve got some use in mind for the Wii U’s gamepad, hopefully something integral to the platforming and hilarity which you can always bank on with a Gilbert game.

With a mysterious and slightly dark atmosphere mixed with a cartoonish 3D art style it’s bound to be likened to a dark LittleBigPlanet. Personally I’m not a fan of that game in the slightest, but with Gilbert’s own take on a modern 2D platformer I’m sure I shan’t be disappointed. It’s sure to be a big year for Double Fine as well, with Double Fine Adventure due to be made in time for a release later in 2013. Even if it doesn’t make it, the backer documentaries are coming together to make a fascinating documentary on game development.
