[UPDATED] BioWare Announces Dragon Age 3: Inquisition Release for Late 2013, Internet Explodes

[UPDATED] BioWare Announces Dragon Age 3: Inquisition Release for Late 2013, Internet Explodes

[UPDATE: Executive Producer Mark Darrah has updated the Dragon Age website with a new blog post detailing the upcoming game.

"I am please to confirm that we are, in fact, working on the next Dragon Age game," wrote Darrah. "Not a big surprise to most of you, I know. We have been working on it in some way for about two years now with the bulk of our efforts ramping up about 18 months ago.

"Part of that effort has involved you, our fans, and the feedback you've provided for Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II, and their DLC. We've visited message boards, read reviews, and we´ve gone to events to have direct face to face conversations with some of our most passionate fans. We´ve been listening, and we will continue to listen."

As for the rumors floating around concerning the plot points, Darrah says that he won't be denying anything but he didn't exactly confirm anything either. For now, Darrah points out that Inquisition will be made by most of the same team that has been working on Dragon Age since the conception of Origins. Both BioWare veterans and new developers have been working on this colossal effort.

Darrah also detailed just a smidgen of the new Frostbite 2 engine, saying that the new engine " will allow us to deliver a more expansive world, better visuals, more reactivity to player choices, and more customization. At PAX East we talked about armour and followers. Yeah, that kind of customisation. We've started with Frostbite 2 from DICE as a foundation to accomplish this."

There's more information to come in the future, but for now Darrah and BioWare are keeping mum about it. In the meantime, Darrah implores fans to keep bringing in feedback so the game can be the best it can be.]

Fans of Dragon Age has seen this coming for a long time, and BioWare has just delivered the goods in a nice, shiny package complete with a ribbon on top. Dragon Age 3: Inquisition has officially been unveiled by BioWare and EA, and will be available in late 2013.

BioWare Edmonton and BioWare Montreal will be handling the developing duties for this upcoming title, sure to set the world on fire upon its release next year. We’re thinking that it might be a holiday release, so it’s time to get excited for 2013 before 2012 is even out. It will also be powered by EA’s brand new Frostbite 2 engine, co-developed with DICE, and it’s going to blow your mind.

“The Dragon Age team has been working on Dragon Age 3: Inquisition for almost two years now,” said BioWare Edmonton and Montreal’s General Manager Aaryn Flynn. “We’ve been poring over player feedback from past games and connecting directly with our fans. They haven’t held back, so we’re not either. With Dragon Age 3: Inquisition, we want to give fans what they’re asking for – a great story with choices that matter, a massive world to explore, deep customization and combat that is both tactical and visceral.

“At the same time, we know we need new technology to truly make this vision become fully realized. And we’ve been working with DICE to make Frostbite 2 the foundation for the engine that is going to power Dragon Age 3.”

BioWare has a lot to deliver with this latest installment, and it’s not backing down from any challenge. Are you ready for Dragon Age 3? What are you looking forwards to the most in the next installment of this epic franchise?

  1. So, we know this will come to PC, but is it a 360/PS3 release or does the Holiday 2013 date give it some buzz towards a PS4/720 next gen console launch? Next year is going to be very interesting for developers.
