Zen Studios just keeps plugging along when it comes to adding pinball tables to their Zen Pinball 2 and Pinball FX 2 collections. Plants vs. Zombies, Ms. Splosion Man and more, the tables continue to impress with each new pinball table release. The same can be said for Star Wars Pinball, the next pack of tables that Zen Studios has released. However, things are not all what they seem on the surface, as there is a bit of a retro feel with this new pack.

The Star Wars Pinball pack includes three tables based on several Star Wars franchises: The Clone Wars, Boba Fett and finally, The Empire Strikes Back. Each of these tables lives up to its namesake, with the sounds actions and story beats all staying faithful to the Star Wars universe.

Both the Boba Fett and Clone Wars tables put together large animatronic displays with moving platforms that play out story elements that work into the lore of those franchises. For Boba Fett, you will see Jabba the Hutt on several occasions as well as Stormtroopers and even a special visit from Darth Vader if you play your cards right. The Clone Wars on the other hand dives into the cartoon series with special visits from characters created for the show.

The Empire Strikes Back on the other hand has some of these animatronics, but its theme and play is more retro than the other two tables. It reminds me of a table from the same era as the movie that it is portraying. Its design is simple and elegant, but it does have enough bells and whistles to stay modern.

One item that did catch me a bit odd was the fact that this table pack only includes three tables for the price point that it is at, when most Zen Studios table packs would normally have four tables. I know that it probably has something to do with the Star Wars license carrying a premium, but with such a rich lore, I find it hard to believe that they would not fit one more table into this pack.

While having one less table in this pack, I still think that the Star Wars Pinball pack is a great addition to anyone’s Pinball FX 2 or Zen Pinball 2 experience. It captures the complete feeling of being in each of these Star Wars properties and the tables have so much atmosphere surrounding them. Star Wars fans will love them, just as Pinball fans will as well. So sit back and May the Force be with you. Yes I had to have at least one Force reference in there somewhere.

Original Trilogy:

  • Each table uses its theme to the fullest
  • Tables have a lot of activity and action
  • Did I mention there was a Boba Fett table?

New Trilogy:

  • Would have been nice to have one more table for the price
  • Episode V table feels a bit too retro

Family Focus
As with the movies the tables share their names with, the Star Wars Pinball table is a safe investment for family members of all ages.
