Tropes vs Women in Video Games (Damsel in Distress)

Watch. Absorb. Discuss.

The first of a twelve-part series about women in video games, Damsel in Distress by Anita Sarkeesian takes an in-depth look at the the use of women as objects/prizes in gaming, and explores why Peach and Zelda are just so damned good at getting themselves captured over and over again.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the many interesting issues raised in the video. It’s okay to disagree, too – all we ask is that you’re respectful if you choose to do so!

  1. I love playable Peach in Super Mario Bros. 2. She was brilliantly capable and easily the most interesting and powerful character.

I’d love a SMB game in which Peach escapes from Bowser & his kids on her own. We KNOW she can.
