Any HEX: Shards of Fate fans out there? Yeah, I thought I heard you rummaging your cards back there…

Listen up! Good news for all you (virtual) card-wielding folk out there as the upcoming update from Gameforge and HEX Entertainment seeks to introduce PvE gaming to the popular BETA, the first single player content arriving in the form of The Frost Ring Arena. Check out the icy cool trailer below!

Now I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not really a huge card gaming fan, but even I’d polish off my nimble thimble in a heartbeat after that video…

So, the idea behind Shards of Fate update is simple: The Frost Arena is divided into four wings, each of which houses four normal opponents and one big bad boss type. The goal is to beat each corner and banish the evil that resides within. Simple? Well not quite, as you’ll only be given 3 attempts to win over the ring and if you fail, you’ll be sent back to square one. Not only that, but the AI opponents that you’ll face will be randomly generated along with the cards they’ll have in their deck, meaning no fight will ever be the same. Challenge accepted. Items, cards and gold are what lie await for the winner…if you can make it; err…here’s some of the people trying to stop you…

With a fleshed out new single-player story containing over 30 different types of AI evil-doers, new challenges with various additional objectives, an expanded, easier to use card interface and of course, the introduction of PvE there’s never been a better time to get into cards!

Yep, like a phantom limb, I can almost feel the stinging sensation of those virtual paper cuts already.
