Last week, we announced the early access for HeroDefense – Haunted Island, and now multiplayer is available for all!
Since releasing on Steam Early Access, Happy Tuesday has regularly been improving HeroDefense – Haunted Island with scheduled updated every Tuesday. They’ve been tweaking things like game balancing, fan-requested features, difficulty adjustments, the UI, and various bug fixes. Happy Tuesday have been making sure to listen closely to their community, and are thus releasing multiplayer.
Players can take each other on in 1v1 multiplayer mode, arming their five heroes with the right skills and runes to beat their opponents, moving their heroes to the right places on the map to defend their own barriers from enemies, and grab magical orbs to improve their own offensive capabilities. Whoever dismantles their waves of enemies first gets to strategically dismantle their opponent’s defences with through Punishments, which are ways to customize the enemy’s upcoming creep wave. This can be done via stat boosts, or swapping them out for an entirely different creep type that can only be defeated by a different type of hero. Essentially, the end goal for each player is to overwhelm their opponents by striking their vulnerable points, so creeps can destroy their barricades.
This multiplayer update adds three new maps, with a total of eight maps planned for when it leaves Early Access later this summer. It also brings the first Multiplayer Season to HeroDefense, a week long event where players can compete in ranked matches for the title of Ultimate Champion. These Seasons will be held each and every week and progress will be reset before the end of the next season.
“After a week of closed beta testing with our beloved community members, multiplayer is now available,” said Karsten Härle, CEO of Happy Tuesday. “We’ve worked long and hard to innovate on classic Tower Defense mechanics, and I think players of Hero Defense will be quite surprised how competitive we’ve made this mode. I look forward to their reactions!”
