Doing my usual nose around the internets one fine London evening, I stumbled upon a teaser trailer for a rather interesting wee survival horror game that’s currently in the works.
Agony is a first-person horror game that’s set in Hell, with the sole intention of trying to escape. Using a special ability to possess demons and control people on their path, your tormented soul must traverse through the depths of hell in order to find a way to escape.
It’s all bloody, gorey and generally hellish (cough). In a way, it reminds me of Dante’s Inferno, except the inverse is happening here. In Dante’s Inferno, the task was to dive deeper in to hell to rescue the woman of his life. Here we’re trying to, ahem, get the hell out.
Questionable voice-acting aside, the art style is something extremely intriguing and could potentially be one to keep an eye out for. The studio in question is also one of the early games coming out of the door that’s built on Unreal Engine 4. The engine really does look like it’s working great on the artwork that MadMad Studio has created.
Agony is currently in development for PC/PS4/Xbox One and is slated for a 2017 release.
