New details and Pokémon have been revealed for Pokémon Sun and Moon: Pikipek, Yungoos and Grubbin.
First up is Normal and Flying type Woodpecker Pokémon Pikipek, which bores holes in trees at the rate of sixteen times per second, and are powerful enough to drill through stone, and can attack far off opponents by firing seeds hard enough to embed them into trees. They like small, glittery objects, and will hide them amongst their food stash.
The second is the Loitering, Normal type Pokémon Yungoos, who has an insatiable appetite and becomes enraged when hungry. Most of its body is its stomach, and it metabolises fast. Some Yungoos also have the Stakeout ability, which allows it to do twice the normal damage to any Pokémon switched out on the field mid – battle.
The third Pokémon is a Larva, Bug type, Grubbin, which relies on its powerful jaws as both a weapon and a tool. Grubbin can spew sticky threads from its mouth and can wrap them around trees, swinging itself around.
Battle Royal is another new mode of play, 4v4 in an all out melee. Each player chooses three Pokémon and sends one out at a time, until all but one have fainted. Players are then ranked and victor declared based on the number of Pokémon defeated and number they have left to play.
There’s also a new Mythical Pokémon, Magearna:
Isn’t it cute? Created by a scientific genius five hundred years ago, it has the power to sense the emotions, thoughts and feelings of other Pokémon. Stored in its chest is the Soul-Heart, an artificial life which was created using the life energy of other Pokémon. This is also the name of its ability – it raises Magearna’s Special Attack by 1 each time another Pokémon in the arena faints. You’ll be able to catch Magearna by scanning a special QR code, which will be given out in Europe at a later date.
Finally, there will be new forms for Solgaleo and Lunala when releasing their powers. Solgaleo transforms into its Radiant Sun phase and Lunala transforms into its Full Moon phase, which you can see below:
