Avast me hearties, it’s only been a week since Sea of Thieves the pirate-themed multiplayer experience from developers Rare unfurled its sails, but already it’s racked up a new record as the fastest selling new IP on this current generation of consoles. Thanks in part to great advertising and a hype train with a full head of steam.

Since March 20, more than two million players have created a pirate and set sail for adventure on the high seas, and one million of those were playing on day one at launch, that’s quite impressive.

And for all you budding statisticians out there, some more interesting numbers from the Sea of Thieves stats books.

  • The best-selling Microsoft Studios first-party title on Windows 10.
  • More than 100,000 players have streamed Sea of Thieves since its launch.
  • 10 million hours of Sea of Thieves streams watched in the last week.
  • Over 400,000 players have joined an Xbox Club to find pirates.

There seems to be no end to the wind that inflates these sails at the moment, let’s hope that the Kraken doesn’t eat all those pirates.
