“The internet’s fucking crazy.”

Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf, the 16-year-old Fortnite World Cup solo champion, was the latest victim of a “swatting” prank. Bugha was streaming on Sunday evening with a couple of friends before armed police showed up at his front door. Thankfully, neither Bugha or any of his family were hurt. (Via Kotaku)

Bugha was crowned the World Champion at the end of June and has been streaming regularly since his win. During Sunday’s Twitch stream, Bugha can be heard speaking with his dad before disappearing for around ten minutes.

When he returned to the stream, Bugha explained that armed police were outside his house. Luckily, one armed officer recognised Kyle as he lived in the same neighbourhood. Bugha said that the police “came in with guns, bro,” before – accurately – saying that “the internet’s fucking crazy.”

This isn’t the first we’ve seen such ridiculous antics from players. Last year a man was killed because of a swatting prank in America. 26-year-old Tyler Barriss later pled guilty to a total of 51 charges that originated from the swatting prank and is now serving a 20-25 year prison sentence.

In this most recent incident, no-one was harmed. Though, Polygon recently reported that since his World Cup win, Bugha has, as you’d expect, a lot more attention on him now and streams regular see him targeted from the off in Fortnite.
