It has been announced in the current edition of Famitsu that Ace Attorney Investigations 2 is being developed, but also that it will be available to play at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. The game is the sequel to the original Ace Attorney Investigations, featuring Miles Edgeworth from the Ace Attorney series as the playable character investigating crimes outside the courtroom.

The announcement refers to CHESS as one of the games new systems. Either this means that you can play chess or it works to help solve crimes like the Logic feature of the original Ace Attorney Investigations series.

The games release date is currently unknown, and Capcom have yet to state whether it will be localised. However, as they have localised all of the series on DS so far, this looks pretty likely. I’m certainly excited for some CHESS, how about you?

If, like me, you are a fan of visual novels or puzzle games, you’ll be interested to see that a demo for the upcoming title “999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors” is now available to play in your browser. It includes a sample of what the gameplay holds, and allows you to try out some of the games many puzzles. The puzzles can be challenging, but satisfying to complete. The game tells a dark tale which seems to have elements reminiscent of the Saw films and offers one of the few mature experiences on the DS.

If the demo has piqued your interest in the game, the game was developed by Chunsoft and will be available from Aksys on the DS on November 16th in the US. At this time, no European distribution of the title has been announced.

After the massive success of Dreamworks’ animated film series Madagascar it was only a matter of time before fan favourites Team Penguin got their own show. They did in 2008, when Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private hit the screens of Nickelodeon. Two years later, they’re getting the video-game treatment as developer THQ enter into partnership with Dreamworks to bring The Penguins of Madagascar to the Nintendo DS.

From the information and screens available at this point, The Penguins of Madagascar is shaping up to be a 3D adventure where players will control one penguin at a time, utilizing their individual abilities and technical know-how to solve puzzles and advance through the game. Players will also find themselves embarking on stealth missions and bonus levels, and taking part in wild mini-games.

The Penguins of Madagascar is currently tipped for a November 2010 release. For more information click here to visit THQ’s official web-page for the game.

The title has already announced a port to Xbox Live Arcade due for release in September 2010 and this spread onto the DS for the US market marks the continued expansion of successful IPs from the iOS devices onto multiple platforms.

There is no news on release for outside the US at this point.

5th Cell’s innovative DS drawing-cum-puzzler sequel Super Scribblenauts has pipped to the post the likes of God of War, The Sims 3 and Professor Layton to win the battle of the handhelds at this year’s Gamescom festival.

Out this autumn, Super Scribblenauts is a side-scrolling adventure puzzle game where players write words to conjure up an extensive A-to-Z of outrageous items to aid them in their quest. New to the sequel, players can now use adjectives to add an array of weird and wonderful characteristics to the objects they summon.

The original Scribblenauts, released last year, has sold 1.1 million copies to date and was the biggest-selling third-party DS title of 2009, winning countless awards including ‘Portable Game of the Year’, ‘Outstanding Innovation in Game Design’ and ‘Outstanding Achievement in Portable Game Design’.

Super Scribblenauts is released in the US on September 15th and in Europe on October 9th.

On July 31 the Enigma Stone became available for download via Nintendo Wi-Fi connection for Pokemon Soulsilver and Heartgold. The stone will be available until August 27th for those who have not had the chance to snag it yet. The Enigma Stone is very valuable to those trying to acquire all the legendary Pokemon as it allows players to catch either Latios or Latias, depending on which version of the game you have. Heartgold players will get Latios and Soulsilver players will receive Latias.

After acquiring the stone and picking it up from the Poke Mart, players must visit the Pewter City Museum and talk to Steven and the scientist. After handing over the stone to the scientist, he will reveal that it is actually Soul Dew, an item which raises Latias/Latios’ Special Attack and Special Defense by 50%. After leaving the museum you will have your encounter with Latios/Latias who will be at level 40. As a bit of advice, save beforehand so that you don’t have to keep purchasing more Poke Balls. Personally, I was able to catch my Latias after about three dozen dusk balls. Remember that dusk balls have a catch rate of 3.5x at nighttime, compared to ultra balls only having a catch rate of 2.0x. If you have a high leveled Pokemon that knows Sleep Powder or Hypnosis try to hit Latias/Latios with that as it will also increase your catch rate.

It should be noted that this event has been available to Japanese gamers since November of 2009 and to date there are still some major events that have yet to see a North American/European release date, specifically the 10th Anniversary Mew. Based on the trends we have seen with Japan getting Wi-Fi events first, and everyone else getting them later, there still might be hope for the Mew event later on.
