Audio fans, lend an ear! I promise not to be too verBOSE.

Ubisoft has joined forces with audio people BOSE in a promotion offering 20 sets of BOSE AE2 headphones, purportedly worth more than £100 each, on the Just Dance 3 Facebook page

If you’re into that whole sound thing, you might consider entering the give-away. You can check out the headsets via the BOSE product page, in case you’re picky about the free stuff you can win. Who says beggars can’t be choosers, right?

Just Dance 3 is a music video game released on Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and makes heavy use of each platforms’ respective motion technologies. The game features quartets (a mode which allows four players to dance together) alongside solo and duets, as well as new songs and routines, and was released late last year.

If you’re in the habit of liking pages on Facebook, you might consider like-afying the GGS Gamer page, where you can keep up with our posts as they come flying down the Internet tubes.

Microsoft’s innovative and slightly unusual Fun Labs has been updated with the addition of two new modes for users to play around with. Out now is Magical Feet, a gadget that allows you to make music with your feet on a giant virtual keyboard. You can select your own sound from a multitude of available instruments (including your voice). It is availble now for 160 Microsoft points.

It reminds me of those giant keyboards you sometimes found in large toy shops as kid. Though not nearly as awing, it’s still a pretty neat little idea.

Secondly, but not released until the 28th of this month is Battle Stuff. This allows you to scan household objects and fight them out Pokémon style.

So. This is definitely a novel idea and I admit that having my toaster put the smackdown on an iPod sounds like it would be epic, there is still an obvious level of abuse that this system would receive. Of the phallic variety. Boys will be boys you see, and the opportunity to have your junk fight it out, or just disgust people would be a tempting attraction to the more deviant among us.

So, who of you actually have a room big enough to dance on a giant keyboard...?

Still no doubt this level of abuse has been factored in, and the banning hammer will be brought to fore to deal with the results of many drunken house parties.

Though not out until the end of the month, Battle Stuff will be free to download.

While playing games is super fun on your mobile device, it can be a rather big disturbance for those around you if you do not have a good headset along with you. Or the opposite may be true where you are jamming to some tunes, but do not have a quality way to let others listen outside of the less then optimal internal speakers on your phone.

CompuExpert are looking to remedy this issue with a new product they are carrying from Genius. The HS-905BT stereo Bluetooth device from Genius clips to your clothing, and has a standard headphone jack on one end, allowing you to hook up the included stereo earbuds, your own headphones or even a pair of speakers that use a headphone jack. It connects to any device that supports Bluetooth, allowing for you to connect them to your phone, iPad or other device.

Check out the video and screens that we have below for the Genius HS-905BT Bluetooth device, which is out today for $59.99.

Excuse the following punnery.

To celebrate the (hopefully) imminent release of Star Wars: The Old Republic, the delightful chaps at Razer have produced a line of ridiculously good looking tools for the Force-sensitive among us. For those of you who’ve been living on a rock akin to Tatooine for the last couple of years, Razer are a gaming peripheral brand who produce some of the best equipment on the planet, not to mention some of the best looking. In fact, this lowly reporter uses various pieces of Razer gear on a regular basis, and swears by their gaming mice in particular.

First up – the figurehead of the range, the keyboard. Brushed aluminium, low profile backlight keys – yes, it is a bit reminscent of Apple, but hold your fire. For starters, the touchscreen trackpad on the right displays a variety of information, including menus and macro settings, as well as allowing for further customisation on-the-fly. The ten adaptive touch keys above this will change dependant on situation and game information, but also offer personal programming for those still a little wary of droid capabilities. To sweeten the deal, each key is printed with the language of the Star Wars universe, Aurebesh, and all lighting and alligience insignia are interchangable and user-controlled.

The mouse is essentially a chiseled, wireless version of Razer’s own Naga, but that is in no way a bad thing. With 12 customisable hotkeys easily accesible by the thumb, not to mention five other programmable buttons, the player will be able to control just about every action without ever touching the keyboard. As is standard with Razer, there will no doubt be a ridiculously accurate 6400p optical laser, so even if you can’t afford the seriously cool high-grade mouse mat, you’ll never lose traction or be able to blame your equipment. Again, the lighting and insignia can be changed, depending on your personal preference.

The 5.1 headset and mouse pad round off the range, making your desk look all the more like the interior of a Star Destroyer. The mouse pad looks like a Star Wars flavoured varient of their own Scarab mouse mat, whilst the headset brings some tasty innovations to the field, including LED warning projectors that cast light on the users shoulders to signify nearby threats.

All this sheer win comes at a hefty price tag, I’m afriad. Regardless of the fact that Razer accept Republic Credits, as well as all the usual credit cards and methods, you’re still going to need a small fortune to afford the set – the keyboard alone will cost $200. The mouse and headset are priced at the slightly more reasonable $130, whilst the mouse mat will set you back $50.

The more flush amongst us will argue that this is a small price to pay for such high levels of geekdom, not to mention top end gear, but generally speaking, these aren’t the prices you’re looking for. Move along.

In order to view the full range in all its glory, ship over to the official Razer SWTOR website to view their elusive wares.

Sony had nothing more to lose from E3 in the wake of the devastating security breaches back in late April, but they certainly reasserted themselves as entertainment behemoths with their keynote speech. Straight off the bat, Sony throw us some of the biggest hardware launches seen in recent times, as well as key software releases to keep us excited in the near future. Whilst Microsoft’s keynote rotated around ground breaking software and the acquisition of big names, Sony’s was centered around the Playstation 3′s existing support for future technology, and the introduction of new hardware. For now, here’s a quick run down of the key aspects:

—

The Playstation NGP has been officially named “Playstation Vita,” dated and priced.

The successor to the PSP, the Playstation Vita, has been announced, with games such as Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Street Fighter vs Tekken and Wipeout 2048 being shown as gameplay demos during the keynote. The first look shows some serious power behind the handheld, with graphics starting to catch up with the current generation on display. The dual touch pad, dual analogue stick, dual camera handheld will be also shipping with the same SIXAXIS motion control system found in the PS3 controllers, and is due to be released worldwide this holiday season. Prices start at $250 for the WiFi only version, and $300 for the 3G enabled models.

PlayStation Vita Specification.

- Quad-core ARM Cortex A9 processor
- SGX543MP4+ GPU
- 5-inch OLED touchscreen (960 x 544 resolution, 220ppi)
- Rear touchpad
- Dual analogue control sticks
- Digital D-pad and six control buttons
- Six-axis motion sensing technology
- Stereo speakers & built-in microphone
- Front and rear camera
- Wi-Fi, 3G on 3G model

—

Playstation Move is being implemented across the board.

Much like Microsoft’s rallying behind Kinect technology in all the latest and greatest announcements, Sony are pulling rank around Playstation Move, with motion controls being implemented in various titles, such as NBA 2k12, Bioshock Infinite and Resistance 3. How effective these controls will be is yet to be seen, although the interactive demo of NBA 2k12, as played by Kobe Bryant, showed a good implementation of the motion controller.

—

Playstation release branded 3D 24″ HD screens, along with 3D glasses, at a seriously attractive price.

Sony are putting a lot of support behind 3D technology, and as a result are introducing options to offer the advanced tech at a low price point. The Playstation branded 3D screen will come with a 24″ display, as well as the exciting prospect of being able to display different screens to different users. Instead of the traditional split screen, one player will see a completely different, full screen viewpoint to that of the other, thanks to the 3D and other assisted pieces of technology available. Sony are also releasing a budget branded set of 3D glasses to accompany the new hardware. The price of the future? Well, the glasses are set to retail at $70 if bought alone, but the featured bundle – TV, glasses, 6ft HDMI cable and Resistance 3 – will ship for the very attractive price of $499. Now that’s value, folks.

—

Large focus on cross-platform gaming, with integration through Cloud, multiplayer and user content.

With the addition of the Vita to Sony’s portfolio of entertainment comes the announcement of true cross platform support, with save files, user content and multiplayer modes being shared between the handheld and the PS3. This content is shared via the Cloud – an online data service exclusive to the Sony Playstation family. Releases are also being tailor made with cross-platform gaming specifically in mind, such as DUST 517, the first person shooter set in the expansive universe of the popular MMORPG, EVE Online. The level of integration this title will have with EVE remains to be seen, but the trailer and first glances suggest very positive things to come.

—

More big releases are imminent, with exclusive content to PS3 owners.

To sweeten the deal, Sony have announced the latest entries in many hard-hitting franchises, as well as the promise of exclusive content for those who opt for the Playstation 3 alternative in the cross-platform releases. With InFamous 2 set to launch tomorrow, Resistance 3 and Uncharted 3 aim to stake their claim in the autumn games blitz, with release dates of September 6th and November 1st respectively. Many other big titles are due, but will offer Sony customers some serious benefits – Bioshock Infinite customers will get the original title on the same Blu-Ray, SSX contains an exclusive Mount Fuji track, Need For Speed The Run ships with seven exclusive cars and Battlefield 3 comes with Battlefield 1943 fully loaded on the game disc. ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are also being remade in 3D and are being released in the imminent future.

—

And that, in a nutshell, is that. Stay tuned with us for our coverage of Nintendo’s keynote speech tomorrow, and you can view our live blow-by-blow account of the announcements over at our Facebook page.

It’s probably a good bet nowadays that if you took a look on the bus or at the mall, you’d see at least one person holding an iPhone, an iPad, or a smartphone. With mobile gaming on the rise, it’s no real surprise that Alienware, or more commonly known as the Mercedes Benz of computer hardware, might be getting in on the action.

During a briefing today for their new line of gaming laptops, Frank Azor, Alienware’s Product Group Senior Vice President, said that the answer to the tablet dilemma “isn’t no, but it isn’t also yes yet.” “We’re looking at all form factors and how we can provide value to gamers using all of the different factors,” said Azor.

Whether this means Apple should step up their game or not (pun completely and mortifyingly intended), we don’t really know yet, but it certainly does make us wonder just where exactly will the future of gaming lie. Hopefully the rise of mobile gaming will not detract from the experiences of more powerful consoles such as the Xbox or Playstation.

I think it’s safe to say that we’re not going to have it if we get mediocre games across all platforms.

Having launched an appeal of my own this week in order to raise funds for specialist equipment for my wheelchair, I’m no stranger to the financial implications of Disability. The cynic in me may even suggest that at times, it seems the moment anything is specifically geared towards the “Special Needs” market, the prices take a steep hike. It can feel like items intended on knocking down barriers often reside behind one big barrier: Cost. The irony in this is not lost on me.

That’s why I am particularly excited about the new project coming into fruition at SpecialEffect.

Currently, a project that is instrumental in bashing down this one last barrier between the Disabled Gamer and (in)accessible gaming is being piloted and takes the form of the Loan Library Project. Set up to provide people with Disabilities with the cutting-edge adaptive technology required to bring out their inner-gamer, the Loan Library Project allows users to road test various gadgets, with the view of finding the ideal tech-config for them, for FREE.

Already, the lives of individuals have been changed for the better through the use of accessible gaming technologies as a result of the pilot scheme. Little Sophie Patmore, a bright toddler with severe disabilities, was able to road-test an iPad for a whole month to ensure that it was suited to her needs, prior to her parents deciding to purchase one.

Alex Kostov (pictured), a young lad with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, also got a chance to try out eye-gaze technology after finding voice-recognition software tiring and laborious. Alex discovered the Charity online:

“I remember talking to them on GameBase and I was asking them about all kinds of equipment, especially eye tracking technology. It came about they offered to come and show me what it’s all about and how to use it.”

After visiting Alex at his home and carrying out an assessment, the SpecialEffect team were able to lend Alex an “eye-gaze” system, which he took to instantly:

“A lot of the programs are a lot easier to use and I can play a lot more games than I used to be able to. I am definitely going to try and buy my own eye-gaze system.”

Since using the technology, Alex has made huge strides and has started an online IT course and plans to fundraise to buy his own eye-gaze device. I’m sure I can speak for all of us here at GGSGamer, when I say that we wish Alex every success in his endeavours.

More information about SpecialEffect and the ways in which they lend and support access technology to gamers with disabilities, can be found at SpecialEffect.org.uk.

Fed up with your dull white (or black) Xbox 360 controller? No? Neither am I, but if you fancy adding a bit a shine (not to mention some added functionality) to your gaming set up then read on.

The new silver Xbox 360 wireless controller is due to hit stores on March 4th in Europe and will set you back £44.99.

So what’s so special about this shiny new controller? Well, apart from the concave, ridged analogue sticks, you can look forward to a transforming D-pad which allows you to switch between the current disc style and a new, raised cross pad which is designed to give you more accuracy and control.

The silver colour scheme translates to the entire controller, leaving behind the brightly coloured buttons and replacing them with different shades of grey. Potential QTE hell, I’m sure but it looks seriously cool.

Oooooo shiny!

Along with these new features, your money will reportedly net you a Play & Charge kit. Look out for them in stores from March 4th onwards.

To complement a range of new PSP bundles introduced in Japan – including some rather spiffy Final Fantasy and Monster Hunter Portable 3D bundles – Sony Japan have also put together a value pack for girls imaginatively called, er, “Value Pack For Girls”.

Why is it for girls? Because it’s pink, naturally. Oh – and because the case features a pretty bow.

The bundle sports the same accessories as the FF and Monster Hunter ones, only the Value Pack For Girls looks like Barbie has spewed all over it. In addition to the pink PSP-3000, there’s also a pink case, pink earphones and even a pink screen cleaner.

And look, I get it – some girls do like pink. I appreciate that. But we don’t all like pink – so why the marketing of pastel colours are continuously peddled to humans with boobs, I’ll never know. Why not just call it the Pink bundle and leave it at that? Why continue to genderise a chiefly genderless product?

The new bundles go on sale from 17 February in Japan for ¥19,800 (USD$240). Whilst the Monster Hunter bundles ship with the game, it appears that the pink bundle comes gameless – which suggests that it’s not as much ‘value’ as a potential rip-off. Nice.
