Moments when you realize you taught your son right
The other day, my son was watching me finish up Final Fantasy XIII-2 on the PS3, and he was facinated by the creatures and the action on the screen. He turned to me and stated that he wanted to play Final Fantasy XIII on his 360.
I mentioned to him that I thought it would be a bit of a challenge, as you have to manage paradigm shifts, the Crystarium, potions, Phoenix Down and so much more. I did not think he would really be interested. He popped it in the 360 in his room and 10 minutes later said he was not interested.
I did not think about it for awhile, but he had spring break this week and when I came home one day from work, he asked if I could watch him play Final Fantasy XIII. To my surprise, he had figured out most of the nuiances of the game, and barring a few missteps in the Paradigm Shift mechanic, was already into chapter 4, only stuck for the first time on the boss Odin.
I was amazed at the fact that he had dug in and on his own, grasped the concepts of the system. It was a fantastic moment that left me beaming as a gaming parent.
Yes, many have said that Final Fantasy XIII is not a true Final Fantasy game, but this might be his gateway into previous Final Fantasy games going forward.
