Any thoughts on Deus Ex Human Revolution

Postby mclazyj » Tue Aug 23, 2011 6:12 pm

I am supposed to be getting my timely review code from Square today, and I have have a vacation day tomorrow to enjoy the game in its full glory.

But I was curious as to what the general populace think so far. I am hoping that this game gives us most of what we got in the first Deus Ex, with some tweaks and new controls, while leaving out pretty much everything that we got in Deus Ex sequel.

Let's hear your impressions on the game.

I personally have no interest in the game. It's simply not my cup of tea, but I've heard everyone just about trip over themselves raving about how awesomely epic this game really is.

Well, my review code finally showed up today, and I am about an hour in and I am loving it. The controls take a bit of time to warm up to on the keyboard, but overall, it is really good. Square and Eidos Montreal might have hit it out of the park on this one. But judgement has been withheld until the review is complete.

I was holding out, thinking I wouldn't get on with this, but I just know I'll end up buying it. Am gonna wait it out a bit though; I'm going through my pile of shame alphabetically (have just completed Bayonetta whilst still playing Alice and Bulletstorm) but I bet I pick it up before long ...

I picked up Bulletstorm on PC a few weeks ago when it was marked down to $12. A very enjoyable game at that price. Not sure it was worth $60.

I feel ashamed that I have not finished Bayonetta. One day it will come off the pile of shame. It was such a great combat system, but I just had more and more show up on my plate.

Bayonetta deserves to be finished. Been trying run throughs on the harder difficulties recently, I don't recommend it unless you have three thumbs.

Played a bit at my mates house recently, incredible game. Squeenix looked to have booked their ideas up at long last.

I know, I do feel bad about not finishing Bayonetta. It was one of those games where I got tied up with review stuff, and I swore I would come back to it, and then never did.

So far, I am enjoying it. I find it overly complicated at some points but that just enables me to think outside the box which is completely great. It's a puzzle game without throwing the puzzles in your face. I hate the map and how they organized the journals (which, really, they didn't). The characters seem off sometimes BUT this is just me nit-picking at this point. I'm thoroughly enjoying the game so far and I love the stealth and how I actually WANT to do stealth in this game. The story is great so far as well too. :)

So I ended up finishing yesterday evening, and was really happy with the entire conclusion. Already want to play again as a guns first, asshole attitude approach, as I mostly stealthed my way through the first time. Hope to have my full review up by tomorrow, but it is teh awesomeness. People should buy this, and now.

Bigger surprise is that I have already seen it go on sale at Amazone for $31.99. That is just crazy. Kind of like how Amazon went all crazy and marked down Portal 2 to $29.99 on PS3 three weeks after release.

Found this on eBay for £13 with all the DLC unused. I love bargain hunting sometimes.

Incredible game. Trying to go through without setting off an alarm or killing anyone, and it's going surprisingly well. It's the kind of game that pats you on the back for being cunning and devious, but it's still refreshingly challenging. Not quite controller breaking yet, thankfully - although I'm sure my hard playthrough will rectify that.
