Hallelujah! My prayers have been answered.

As some of you may remember, I was (probably) one of the few to actually enjoy LJN’s Nintendo game Friday The 13th. Well it seems that nearly 26 years later, we may have a new game based on the horror movie franchise.

Sean S. Cunningham, creator of the original Friday the 13th movie, discussed with EGM that work is currently on-going for a new Friday The 13th game that would see a release during October 2015.

With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth installment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form […] We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect.

Friday The 13th will not only reference the classic movie franchise, but also include content from the upcoming, recently-announced, TV series.

The new game will feature a hunter/hunted type of scenario with a player acting as Jason Voorhees and other players controlling Camp Counselors. Unfortunately, at this point, we do not know for which platform this game is targeting or who is handling the development reigns. With the iffy history that games based on movie license, it can be worrisome and we should keep our excitement bottled up until we learn more. However, the premise sounds interesting, so if handled properly, it could kick some serious ass online. And here’s to hoping they also plan to have single player content.

Huge thanks to EGM.
