In sort of an out of nowhere press release, Microsoft announced that Fable Legends, their 4v1 action title, will now be a free to play game when it is released for both Xbox One and Windows 10 PC’s. Of course, when one reads the words “free to play” it instantly conjures up visions of having to buy some sort of gold, silver, widgets or other arcane item to realistically proceed in the game at a normal gaming pace. Microsoft has countered this notion by stating that the game will be completely free to play from beginning to end, without ever incurring a cost.
Of course, a game has to have some way to make up its budgeted costs, and Fable Legends is no different in that regard, so players will be able to buy all sorts of cosmetic enhancements for their characters and, taking a page from the Killer Instinct release, will let players play as certain characters in the free game. Get used to a character, or want to have access to all characters free and clear, you can buy unfettered access to them.
To play on Xbox One, players will need to have an active Xbox Live subscription, but if you are going to take the plunge on Windows 10, there is no such gate to entry. Just download the client and play to your hearts content.
