The history books are compiled with endless stories of great men, but they are also a source for a list of important and influential women, including influential artists, authors and councillors. Underlying that fact, Paradox are releasing a free update for Europa Universalis IV, with the inclusion of 100 great woman of history to the game.

Many of these characters can be implemented in your court as advisers, where as others can be used as rulers or leaders. Characters will also be introduced randomly through certain events in the game such as experiencing a weak regency, a colonial empire or other scenarios.

“It’s no surprise that the role of women in history isn’t as well known as that of men,” Johansson says. “Europa Universalis, admittedly, hasn’t done a lot to foreground their contributions. We thought that International Women’s Day was the best time to do a little bit to help balance the scales and introduce our audience to some very interesting people.” Europa Universalis Players can pick up The Women’s History DLC free, on March 8.
