The great Greek philosopher Aristotle once said, ‘It is not enough to win a war; it is more important to organize the peace’.
Well now, while his wise words may ring very true in the ears of our ancestors both past, present and in the inevitable future, I can’t yet imagine that the organisation of peace would make the best of games. (Or would it? Hmm…).
Video games have long championed the act of war as a basis for gaming success, and of the vast, vast, majority of war-based games that have been released over the numerous years it is perhaps the Total War franchise that has summed up the success of the genre: 15 years! Can you believe it? I can’t. But then again, perhaps I can given the allure of battling friend or foe across the ever-changing landscapes of history.
The games themselves have spanned over 2000 years worth of war waging, with over 1 million gamers playing Total War every month spending an incredible average of 104 hours apiece in each game! Hey, that’s a stat right there, and (an estimated) 4.8 billion battles can’t be wrong.
To celebrate this tremendous milestone and everything else that lies ahead, the Total War team have released a short video, very astutely titled, ’15 Years of Total War’.
So, lie back on your lounge chair, get comfy and find someone to feed you grapes for the next 3 minutes; and remember the words that are probably as much Total War’s now as they were Julius Caesar’s: ‘Veni, vidi, vici. (I came, I saw, I conquered)’. Enjoy.
