When motorsports champion Travis Pastrana is singing the praises of the series in the reveal trailer – you know the game means business.
Skylanders: SuperChargers is the upcoming fifth instalment in Activision’s Skylanders series, focussing heavily on an action role-playing style of play. Due for release on September 20, 2015 (US) and September 25, 2015 (EU) on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3/4, Nintendo Wii/Wii U/3DS and iOS – this is intended to be the biggest addition yet.
Similarly to its predecessors, the game is a “toy-to-life” game in which players place toys onto the mysterious “portal of power”, a device that reads tags through NFC technology (also found in smart phones); this ‘imports’ the character, allowing the player to be represented by that character/figurine in game.
Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing stated, “We love making these games because in order to do it well, you have to constantly tap into your inner kid. What kid hasn’t imagined epic vehicles with amazing powers and dreamed about the adventures they could have with them? Skylanders SuperChargers makes those dreams real.”
The story will focus on primary antagonist Kaos’ attempt to rule the world of ‘Skylands’. In a bid to expand on the game and give it some more depth, players will now have the ability to tackle land, sea and air and import up to twenty new figures to help tackle each of those elements. Additionally, all three hundred of the previous characters introduced in the series will still be playable.
Each track will be filled with obstacles to evade, shortcuts to race to the finish line faster, as well as a boss and puzzle to solve before the level can be complete. Additionally, players will be able to customers and upgrade their vehicles and weapons to help them along the way.
Fans of the series can pre-order the Skylanders: SuperChargers starter pack at select retail destinations, the following link having more details.
