I’ve always liked the Metal Gear franchise. There are times I’ve made a point to try and storm through part of the games without firing a single shot and others when I’ve emptied enough clips to have supplied a small army.
The latest video release showcases a number of different approaches to the upcoming stealth action/adventure that really shows that you can play it your own way.
The video might be a long one but it’s worth sticking with it.
Shown are four different infiltration options but I’ll summarise for those short on time:
1) ‘Quiet’ takedown.
Being quiet is an art in Metal Gear but this time you can call upon the silence itself. Not in some weird supernatural way but with the assistance of a new ‘buddy’ in game, aptly named ‘Quiet’. Quiet, a remarkable marksman, has sniping skills that would put The End to shame. The video showcases a mission where Quiet helps snake orchestrate a co-ordinated double attack to quickly take out enemies and cause a sufficient distraction.
2) Surgical Air Raid
For the trigger happy player that likes to leave his mark on the game world, a surgical air raid can see carnage and destruction in Snake’s wake. I suppose there’s no point in sneaking in to a compound when you have an arsenal at your fingertips? It’s like asking a child not to push the red button. They will…
3) Remote Assassination
Snake’s Blast Arm is an interesting one. His prosthetic arm switches to ‘missile cam’ allowing the player to control a rocket in a nostalgic flashback to the Nikita missile launcher from games past!
4) The Cardboard Box!
Any Metal Gear fan doesn’t need an introduction here. The flawlessly stealthy cardboard box returns with a demonstration of how to use it REALLY effectively. I mean more effective than letting a wolf urinate on the side of it so you can blend in with the pack. Honest. Watch the video.
All in all, it’s fair to say that Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain is really shaping up to be a game suited to a host of different players and alternating play-styles.
MGSV is out on September 1, 2015 on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
