The Escapists was a recent award winning Indie game that impressed players with the exciting gameplay of breaking out of various prisons in a retro 8-bit pixelated art style.

Team17, the developers behind the success story have recently unveiled that they are developing and publishing, in partnership with Skybound Entertainment, a cross combination with every zombie fan’s favourite: Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead.

The Escapists: The Walking Dead is a truly unique combination that will see players take control of Rick Grimes who is heading up a team of survivors, many of whom have featured in the original comic cast. It will be up to the player to ensure that Rick can safely lead the survivors through various danger zones by seeking out a safe route.

Unlike the TV show that has ventured off in its own direction, the game will stay true to the original comic storyline, mirroring the timeline of them by allowing players to try and ‘escape’ various situations whilst keeping the survivors alive.

Team17 will be unveiling more of this gem at the Walker Stalker Fan Festival in San Diego this weekend (July 10/July 11) and some fortunate attendees will get to try the Harrison Memorial Hospital level.

The Escapists: The Walking Dead is scheduled for a 2015 release on Xbox One and PC.
