Our friends over at GameSpot have seemingly got somewhat of a release window out of Director Hajime Tabata for the upcoming Final Fantasy XV. After being pressed on how they plan to reassure fans, Tabata dropped the best indication of the Final Fantasy XV release date yet: “We can certainly say to people: it’s not going to be 2017. It’s going to be before that”

After the Active Time Report yesterday, a lot of fans were left disappointed by what was announced; Tabata also wanted to address this stating – “We came to Gamescom this year with our plan – having people who know the series and people who don’t we wanted to introduce the information of a level playing field. We miscalculated the kind of expectations toward this event, especially for what people want to see at this show.” He went on to say “There was a big gap between our perceptions of what people should be doing and what people expected. And we realised very quickly after the reaction!”

Square Enix also said it was going to show off “new, never-before-seen” gameplay footage during the event, but this did not materialise. Instead, it released a story trailer depicting events set prior to the main game.

Tabata closed with saying how they will be able to make an announcement about the release date later this month at PAX Prime; so stay tuned folks!
