Square Enix has announced that NieR: Automata will be coming to PS 4 in early 2017; the game was originally slated for release in 2016 when it was officially unveiled at last year’s E3.
They’ve also revealed a few details about the story:
Invaders from another world attack without warning, unleashing a new type of threat: weapons known as “machine lifeforms.†In the face of this insurmountable threat, mankind is driven from Earth and takes refuge on the Moon.
The Council of Humanity organizes a resistance of android soldiers in an effort to take back their planet. To break the deadlock, the Resistance deploys a new unit of android infantry: YoRHa. In the forsaken wasteland below, the war between the machines and the androids rages on.
The follow-up to 2010’s action RPG, NieR, NieR Automata is being developed by Platinum Games (Bayonetta, Vanquish).
In Automata, you play as 2B who is an all-purpose battle android working in an infantry squad, YoRHa. She comes equipped with a sword for melee combat and a ”Pod” support system for ranged battle. Her eyes are concealed beneath a standard-issue military visor, which she rarely removes. She is described as “cool, calm and collected”.
So we’ve got robots fighting robots.
Super.
