During the Revealing the Phantom Thieves live stream event for Persona 5 at E3, it was confirmed that the mystery ninth character would be Goro Akechi. It was only stated that Goro is a detective in a high school, much like Noato Shirogane in Persona 4; more details on this new character will come at a later date.
Also announced were new “Cooperation” characters, which is Persona 5’s take on the Social Link system from Persona 3 and 4. By meeting people in school and the city wing various skills and interests, relationships can be built with a co-op theme. These bonds are mutually advantageous, resulting in collaboration that deepen the ties between characters.
Persona 5 is due to launch for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan on September 15, 2016, with a February 14, 2017 release date in North America. No date or details have been given on a European launch yet.
