After a fierce season of competition, Activision has announced that OpTic Gaming has come out on top, bringing home the trophy for the Call of Duty World League (CWL) Championship 2017.
Hosted by Major League Gaming Corp. (MLG) in partnership with Activision Publishing, Inc., OpTic Gaming triumphed over last years winners, Team EnVyUs in the final competition to determine this year’s champion as the best Call of Duty team in the world.
Held in Orlando, Florida, and presented by Playstation 4, the tournament featured 32 top teams from around the globe as they competed to win a share of the staggering $1.5 million prize pool and make it through to the finale, which offered $4 million in total prize purse, the largest in Call of Duty history.
“This does not feel real at all. I feel like a legend with my teammates,†CWL Championship 2017 MVP Matthew ’FormaL’ Piper said after receiving the honour. When asked about his consistency following the second MVP award, FormaL cited his team. “It’s not me. It’s my teammates, I really mean that. They allow me to play like that and do the flashy stuff. I owe all of that to them.â€
Nine teams captured tournament wins around the world this year; including, Splyce, the first European team to win a CWL event in North America.

- 4th – Red Reserve
- 5th/6th – FaZe Clan

- 7th/8th – Ghost Gaming
