The wait is finally over – almost.
GamesCom 2018 is here and with the opening ceremony came the announcement from Koch Media and YS Net Inc. that Shenmue 3 will be released on August 27, 2019.
Originally announced at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference, Shenmue 3 is a sequel to the popular Dreamcast titles Shenmue and Shenmue 2, which saw the first use of commonplace features such as open world and Quick Time Events.
Shenmue 3 is currently in development at Ys Net, and sees the continuation of story-driven gameplay. You will get to control a teenage martial artist named Ryo as he attempts to uncover the truth behind his father’s murder. Set in an open world environment, you’ll search for clues and gather information in an attempt to unravel the mystery.
The brainchild of award-winning game director, Yu Suzuki, Shenmue set out to combine action gameplay from his arcade classic Virtua Fighter with RPG mechanics to weave a long-form epic for home consoles. Commonly known as one of the most ambitious game projects in history, Shenmue captured the imagination of players from around the world with its unique setting, intimate and cinematic character-focused story, realistic battles, and fun mini-games.
Shenmue 3 is set for release on the PlayStation 4 and PC on August 27, 2019.
