All the news, all in one place.
With John AFK on holiday in somewhere mysterious, I’ve jumped in to take over this week for the news roundup, bringing you the highlights of the gaming news circles over these last seven days. As well as the obvious big one like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 being released on Friday 12 October, with the usual modes of Zombies, Battle Royale via Blackout, and multiplayer, with a steady flow of post launch content and events, we’ve also got RuneScape and Overwatch events to chat to you about. So sit back, relax, and kick off your Saturday with the top stories from GGS.
RuneScape now has a mobile member’s beta
Since you can’t really take your PC with you everywhere you go, you’ll be pleased to know that Jagex has announced the beta for mobile – the RuneScape Mobile Members beta.
While it does appear that signups are closed, at least for the moment, it’s one step closer to bringing the classic title to iOS and Android, much like Old School RuneScape, which is scheduled for release on October 30. Both of these will integrate with PC versions of the game, so you’ll be able to hop from one platform to another, and pick up where you left off.
Plus, the Halloween event, “Till Death Do Us Part,” also came out this week, and it’s pretty special considering it’s the first world event since 2016. Players team up with the Four Riders of the Apocalypse, to close the rift that is letting enemies into Gielinor. If you’re successful, you’ll get time limited access to a warped chamber full of rare treasure. It runs all through October, so get going if you’re interested!
Stardew Valley is coming to iOS
Everyone loves Stardew Valley – it’s chill, it’s cute, and you get to run a farm without putting in any of the actual dirty work. Now it’s heading to iOS, where you’ll be able to play on the go.
You can get it via the App Store on iOS, and can pre order for £8/$8, prior to its launch on October 24. Rebuilt specifically for mobile by The Secret Police (a London-based mobile studio) it’ll have the latest story content from the 1.3 update, new touch screen controls, and redesigned UI. Plus, PC players will be able to import their saves via iTunes. No word on any Android release, though.
You’ll finally be able to change your PSN ID next year
Okay, ‘fess up – who here made a PlayStation Network user ID named after an anime character, adorned with various x’s, underscores, and littered with numbers? Well, come early next year, you’ll be able to change it to something a little more sophisticated – Sony have announced via the PlayStation blog that the testing will be finished in November, and will be rolled out to everyone in early 2019.
The first change will be free, but after that, you’ll have to shell out €10/£8, unless you have PS Plus, when it’ll then cost €5/£4. You can change it in the Settings menu, and have the option to still show your old name should you wish. This feature is “compatible with PS4 games originally published after 1st April 2018,†as well as the “most played PS4 games that were released before this date.†They do hasten to add, however, that “please note not all games and applications for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita systems are guaranteed to support the online ID change, and users may occasionally encounter issues or errors in certain games.â€Â However, if you do run into issues, you will be able to go back to your old ID for free.
There’s a spooky Halloween event going on for Overwatch
Tis the season, and Overwatch is breaking out the ghosts and ghouls with their new Halloween event!
The PvE brawl – Junkenstein’s Revenge – is back, with two playable modes; Junkenstein’s Revenge (Classic) and Junkenstein’s Revenge: Endless Night. You’ll be able to choose from ten heroes and these will have Tracer and Brigette in the mix for the first time. There’s also seasonal items to unlock, with six new legendary skins available, including Banshee Moira, Jack-o’-lantern Wrecking Ball, and Enchanted Armor Pharah. The event is live now, and will run until Halloween.
