Coming soon to a building (possibly) near you.
Rebellion, the team behind games like the Sniper Elite series, Strange Brigade, and Alien vs Predator, has bought up space near their Oxford headquarters which will become a new film studio for the team. The building is located in Didcot and sits about 15 miles away from the Oxford home of Rebellion. The studio will open for business today, with production offices and a sound stage available for use, though a full set of facilities will be coming to the studio in the coming months.
While it’s may seem a little surprising for Rebellion to be making this move, it actually makes a lot of sense. Not only is the studio currently working on the upcoming Judge Dredd “Mega-City Oneâ€, as well as the Rogue Trooper film, which has Source Code director Duncan Jones coming to as the director. But the studio has had a hand in films for well over 15 years, helping out with the likes of World War Z, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Iron Man 2, and a few other titles, so the investment in a studio of their own makes a lot more sense considering the hand the studio has had in films past and future.
Rebellion’s CTO, Chris Kingsley said that the new studio was a reaction to the “levels of growth in television content for streaming services, such as Netflix and Amazon, have been astronomical in recent years. The demand for ongoing original content is bigger than ever and we’re seeing more big players wanting to get in on the action. This is very exciting for the domestic and global film industries but it’s also meant that our infrastructure is under increasing pressure.â€
The Rebellion film studio opens today, November 26, with further facilities being added to the building in the coming months, though we don’t have any further details about when we’ll see the projects Rebellion are working on being released.
