Final FRAN-tasy.

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers, the third expansion for the popular MMO, will launch this summer. The new expansion will add a new ‘gunbreaker’ job, the Viera as a playable race as well as new zones and a whole load of content.

The announcement was made by Producer & Director Naoki Yoshida during his keynote speech at the Final Fantasy fan festival, taking place this weekend in Paris. You can check out the extended announcement trailer below:

The gunbreaker job is a tank role and will allow players to wield a gunblade and if the reveal trailer is anything to go by, it will allow you to conjure all manner of shields and barriers as well as delivering devastating blows to the enemy.

If you’re a fan of Final Fantasy, then the Viera should need no introduction. Balthier’s partner in crime, Fran, (Final Fantasy 12) is a viera. With bunny ears and killer heels – along with some fairly questionable wardrobe choices – this inclusion will make a lot of Fran fans happy. You can check out the new viera race in the trailer below.

Along with the new job and playable race, a new alliance raid will be available; YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse. The new raid is the result of a collaboration between NieR’s Yosuke Saito and Yoko Taro. A host of new dungeons will also be added, along with a new Trust System, allowing players to tackle Shadowbringers instanced dungeons with familiar NPCs  In addition, new areas Il Mheg and the Rak’tika Greatwood will be added.

Pre-orders will be available via the Square Enix Store from February 6, which will net you a number of in-game goodies which will be delivered to your account starting on March 1.

Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers is set for release on July 2. In the meantime, you can check out some of the images and artwork, below.
