As well as power them up.

Celestial Weapons are without a doubt the most powerful weapons that your characters can obtain in Final Fantasy X. With various invaluable characteristics including Break Damage Limit or One MP Cost, the effort to grab these weapons is well worth it – though you absolutely do not need them to beat the game.

If you decide you want to collect some (or all) or the Celestial Weapons in Final Fantasy X, there’s quite a bit you’ll need to do in order to power them up to their full potential. This includes finding and activating the Celestial Mirror which will enable you to unlock the powers on all the weapons.

Just like the weapons it allows you access to, the Celestial Mirror’s full potential will need to be unlocked in order for it to work.

How to find the Cloudy Mirror

Head to Remiem Temple from the Calm lands.

To get the Cloudy Mirror, head to the Calm Lands and hire a chocobo to reach Remiem Temple via the yellow feather in the south-east corner. Once you reach the temple, examine the sphere on the ground to learn about chocobo racing then head over to the left of the temple to start a race. You only need to beat the other chocobo to the centre in order to obtain the Cloudy Mirror as a prize.

How to turn the Cloudy Mirror into the Celestial Mirror

Now you’ll need to head to Macalania Woods to do a sidequest. Head there from the Thunder Plains and talk to the mother and her son to learn that she is looking for her husband. Next, you’ll need to head to the campsite that the party rested at while Tidus and Yuna got all loved up. The easiest way to get there is to head into Macalania Wood from the Calm Lands, past the save sphere and take the first path to the north.

This is where you can power up the Celestial Mirror and Weapons.

Next, return to where you talked to the mother and son. Speak to the mother and father until they tell you that their son is now missing. Just to the right of the save sphere here, you should see a shimmering path. Follow it up to find the son at an intersection and tell him to meet up with his parents. With the path he was blocking now clear, head north to the end and transform the Cloudy Mirror into the Celestial Mirror.

Celestial Weapons Locations

Each character has their own Celestial Weapon. In order to unlock their full potential, you’ll need to find the powered-down, base weapon and take it back to where you powered up the Celestial Mirror – along with two additional items you’ll need in order to power up the weapon.

I’ve listed the location of each below, as well as the powers unlocked once the weapon has been fully upgraded.

Be aware that there may be some spoilerish stuff ahead, so if you’re unsure or if you’ve never finished the game, it might be wise to click away now.

Tidus – Caladbolg

  • Break Damage Limit
  • Triple Overdrive
  • Evade and Counter
  • Magic Counter

Caladbolg Location: The base weapon can be found in a chest in the northern Calm Lands after you’ve completed all three of the chocobo trainer’s trials.
Sun Crest: You can find this in Zanarkand after you’ve defeated Yunalesca. Go up the stairs in the boss room until you see the chest. If you missed it when you fought Yunalesca, it’s highly likely that you’ll need to fight Dark Bahamut to obtain it.
Sun Sigil: You need to beat the chocobo trainer in the Calm Lands with a time of 0:00 or less in order to obtain this as a reward, you can see a video of how to do that particular task here.
Notes: Deals more damage when Tidus is at full health.

Yuna – Nirvana

  • Break Damage Limit
  • Triple Overdrive
  • Double AP
  • One MP cost

Nirvana Location: The base weapon can be found in a chest outside of the Monster Arena in the Calm Lands. You’ll need to have captured one of every fiend in the Calm Lands to open it.
Moon Crest: You can find this very early on in the game. It’s lying on the beach in Besaid, in an alcove to the south-east.
Moon Sigil: You need to face and defeat all of Belgemine’s aeons in Remiem Temple, including the Magus Sisters. You’ll get this as a reward for doing so.
Notes: Powering up this weapon breaks Valefor’s damage limit.

Lulu – Onion Knight

  • Break Damage Limit
  • Triple Overdrive
  • Magic Booster
  • One MP Cost

Onion Knight Location: You can find this in a chest when you return to Baaj Temple. It’s found in the area where you fight Geosgaeno.
Venus Crest: This is found in the Farplane in Guadosalam, after you’ve obtained the airship. Return here and talk to Lulu and Wakka to obtain this item.
Venus Sigil: This one is a little more tricky. You’ll need to dodge 200 thunderbolts in the Thunder Plains to receive this as a reward in a chest outside the Agency there.
Notes: Powering up this weapon will break Shiva’s damage limit.

Rikku – God Hand

  • Break Damage Limit
  • Triple Overdrive
  • Double AP
  • Gillionaire

God Hand Location: There are a number of secret areas you can access by typing a code into the airship’s navigation panel – type in GODHAND and travel to the location it reveals to find Rikku’s weapon in a chest there.
Mercury Crest: This is located in a chest at the bottom of a quicksand pit, in the Sanubia Desert, next to the entrance to Home.
Mercury Sigil: This one is probably the most time-consuming to obtain. You’ll need to gain access to the Cactuar Village in the Bikanel Desert by completing a fairly lengthy sidequest. Once you’ve completed the quest to get rid of the sandstorm, the sigil is waiting in a chest for you.
Notes: Deals more damage when Rikku has full health.

Wakka – World Champion

  • Break Damage Limit
  • Triple Overdrive
  • Double AP
  • Evade + Counter

World Champion Location: After you’ve won a certain number of Blitzball games you can obtain this from the cafe in Luca by talking to the bartender there.
Jupiter Crest: This is located the Besaid Auroch’s locker room in Luca.
Jupiter Sigil: Obtain all of Wakka’s overdrives, then look for this as one of the Blitzball League prizes.
Notes: Powering up this weapon will break Ifrit’s damage limit. Wakka will deal more damage will full health.

Auron – Masamune

  • Break Damage Limit
  • Triple Overdrive
  • First Strike
  • Counterattack

Rusty Sword/Masamune Location: It takes a bit more work to get Auron’s base weapon. First, you’ll need to obtain the Rusty Sword. You can find this close to the entrance of the Cave of the Stolen Faith. Head right from the entrance and follow a narrow path until you see two rocks standing together on the left. The Rusty Sword is stuck in the ground between them. Now head to the Mushroom Rock Road area. The easiest way to do this is to take the airship to the Djose Highroad and head left until you find the first turning north. Take the elevator up to interact with an old statue.
Mars Crest: This is located at the end of the Mi’ihen Oldroad.
Mars Sigil: You’ll need to have captured at least one of each fiend in ten different areas. Once you’ve done so, return to the Monster Arena in the Calm Lands and you’ll get this as a reward.
Notes: Powering this up breaks Yojimbo’s damage limit. Auron will deal more damage when he is at critically low health.

Kimahri – Spirit Lance

  • Break Damage Limit
  • Triple Overdrive
  • Double AP
  • Evade + Counter

Spirit Lance Location: Head to the Thunder Plains and look for glowing Cactuar Stones. Pray in front of three of them then look for a broken lightning rod in the south-eastern area to find Kimahri’s weapon.
Saturn Crest: This is located at Mount Gagazet, between two pillars and just before the area where all the Fayth are dreaming. If you’ve unlocked the Warp Pad, the easiest way to get there is to teleport to the ‘Cave entrance.’
Saturn Sigil: Complete the butterflies mini-game in Macalania Woods to obtain this.
Notes: Powering up this weapon breaks Ixion’s damage limit. Kimarhi deals more damage with full health.
