Wookiee Rescue.

EA Play kicked off with a better look at what in store for Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order when it arrives in November.

Everything shown is still alpha gameplay but Respawn was confident enough to go ahead with 15 minutes of unedited gameplay, showing us a mission around three hours into the game. The mission we saw takes us to the Wookiee home planet of Kashyyyk, where protagonist Cal Kestis is looking to free those loveable bear people and get a foothold on a new Jedi Order.

The gameplay looks – on first impression – like it’s going for a mashup of Uncharted’s love of climbing, the core combat from Star Wars Force Unleashed, with Cal Kestis throwing around a fair few Storm Troopers or launching his light sabre at some others, while a quick look at the game’s time manipulation power draws a fair few comparisons with how you got past some obstacles in Quantum Break.

It all feels very Star Wars-sy from the footage we saw, and Respawn even threw in a quip about the high ground just for shits and giggles; we also saw a small variety of enemies, with your run-of-the-mill Storm Troopers joined by flamethrower troopers, and a better look at the new Purge Troopers who are the scary looking chaps with big electric spear dealies. Oh, and there were giant spiders… or were they beetles? Either way, giant insects, check.

Respawn has said that Fallen Order will be a part of Star Wars canon but refused to say much about the story, with develop Stig Asmussen saying that the team has to “keep a really tight lip,” on anything to do with the story.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will release on November 15 for console and PC.
