During this week’s Tokyo Game Show event, Capcom revealed a new game set in the Resident Evil universe: Project Resistance. Project Resistance is still the game’s working title.
Project Resistance is a five player asymmetric multiplayer game (think Friday the 13th The Game, Dead by Daylight) mixing both cooperative and competitive dynamics giving players the opportunity to create their own survival horror experience.
In each 4v1 match, one Mastermind player tracks the four Survivors through a network of security cameras, staying one step ahead at every turn to prevent their escape. The Mastermind plots a deadly course
by wielding a strategic deck of cards to create dangerous obstacles for the Survivors, such as summoning vicious creatures, setting traps, manipulating the environment, and weaponizing security cameras. He or she can also directly control zombies in play.
To add to the fun, or scare (depending on which side you are), Masterminds can even step into the trench coat of the deadly Tyrant and Survivors must work as a team to fend off the Mastermind’s attacks and complete puzzle style mission objectives in order to escape the map before time runs out.
Capcom is working in collaboration with NeoBards Entertainment to develop Project Resistance and they are using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine; same engine used for Resident Evil 2 Remake and DMC 5.
Xbox Insider Program members and RE Ambassadors will have the opportunity to participate in the Project Resistance closed beta on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The closed beta will run from October 4 through the 7. Registration will be open between Sept. 11 and 18 here.
