Gaming has come a long way over the last several decades. Once confined to arcades, gaming slowly made its way over to computers, home consoles, and handheld devices like the ‘80s Game Boy. Then came the internet — just starting to become a household utility in the ‘90s — which changed the gaming landscape forever (along with some other crucial advancements in technology).
Today, the online gaming world is vast. It includes everything from smartphone games from the Play and Apple stores, to eSports and virtual reality gaming across platforms, to casino games on sites like Pokerstars.bet, to puzzle games on sites like mindgames.com, and so much more. New games are constantly being released, and gamers are always looking for the next big thing.
So, which game is expected to be the next big thing? Here are a few of the most anticipated gaming releases to watch for in 2020.
Final Fantasy VII Remake
This remake of the 1997 PlayStation game of the same name, Final Fantasy VII Remake is not simply an updated duplicate — it appears to greatly expand on the original game. With incredible graphics, a thrilling story, plenty of action, new characters, and nods to the original, this remake should please longtime fans and newcomers alike. The game will be released on March 3 for PlayStation 4.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
A sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest, Ori and the Will of the Wisps will be released on February 11 for Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. In this highly-anticipated sequel, players will assume the role of a guardian spirit who must solve puzzles, unlock secrets, and go on adventures to uncover his true destiny. Unlike the first game, in this one you’ll be able to venture outside the forest and discover new worlds.
Iron Man VR
Originally expected to be released at the end of this year, Iron Man VR won’t be hitting PlayStation VR until February 28. But the game will be worth the wait, because you’ll finally be able to play as your favorite superhero in a much more immersive way. Players will have full access to all of Tony Stark’s incredible technology and tools in order to fight evil and keep the bad guys at bay.
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 is expected to be one of the biggest video game releases of 2020. Besides looking incredible, Keanu Reeves is also set to have a starring role. Set in a dystopian city, players will need to use their wits, tech, and weapons to survive. Cyberpunk 2077 is expected to drop on April 16 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Halo Infinite
The creation of Halo Infinite hasn’t exactly been a smooth ride — it’s been plagued with drama and setbacks. But it’s finally expected to be released at the end of next year, probably sometime around the holiday season. It will be released for Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and the upcoming Project Scarlett. As for what you can expect from the game, Halo Infinite will be sixth Halo game that focuses on Master Chief. It’s also expected to be better than the last Halo release, so it’s definitely something to look forward to.
Bleeding Edge
In this action-filled fighting game, you’ll choose from a cast of colorful and bizarre characters to play. You can fight your enemies with magic, mind control, old-fashioned weapons, and even guitar solos — or you can unleash your character on the world and simply cause chaos. Bleeding Edge will be released for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One on March 24.
Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond VR
Developed for Oculus Rift VR, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is expected to be released sometime in 2020. In the game you’ll be transported back to Europe in the ‘40s to play as an OSS soldier during World War II. With incredible graphics and realistic gameplay, this is one of the most anticipated game releases of the new year.
