Nintendo’s newest IP, Splatoon, reached a sale milestone and crossed the one copies million worldwide, according to Nintendo’s internal figures. That figure translates to more than 230,000 physical and digital units sold in Europe, more than 368,000 sold in Japan, more than 476,000 sold in the Americas, and an additional 20,000 sold in Australia.

Since Splatoon launched on 29th May, it has been great to see so many players competing in online matches“, said Nintendo of Europe President Satoru Shibata. “We are pleased this new Wii U exclusive game is capturing the imagination of so many fans across Europe, and look forward to bringing more exclusive titles to both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS this year.

Splatoon multiplayer pits teams of four online players against one another as they try to splatter a majority of the playing area with their team’s colourful ink. Players can transform into squids and swim through pools of their own ink to move faster or maneuver up walls to access hard-to-reach areas.
